Washington State & National Dog Shelters | Shelter Listing by Breed | Animal Organizations | All other types of Animal Shelters | Toys and Training | Very Political Slam Poetry by me!

These are the best links I can find on pets, wildlife and rescue shelters in Washington State.
If the link is not in Washington, I can't not find one here for the specific location or pet type. Or the link may be nationwide. Browse around the page using the scroll bar, up and down arrows or page up and down keys. Please, don't breed or buy an animal until you've looked at the shelters and rescue organizations below. Visit your local shelter, the pets here want and desperately need your love. If you find a shelter or rescue site you like, send them a gift certificate to the local veterinary clinic, that is the best donation (next to cash, and they need cash) a person can provide.

Rescue Shelters---More below by breed, Safe Houses, pet help & Humane Societies in Washington State and nationwide,

PAWS - People Helping Animals   Rescue & Adoption in Washington State PAWS Animals Available for Adoption - All animals available for adoption at the PAWS shelter in Lynnwood, WA and Cat City in Seattle, WA are listed at the links below. The listings are updated 3 to 5 times a week, so there is a chance that an animal listed will have already been adopted. We absolutely cannot check on the status of an individual animal, or hold an animal pending a possible visit. Therefore PAWS suggests that web visitors find several animals that interest them, and then go to the shelter for a personal visit. PAWS has dozens of great animals available for adoption every single day, and the only true way to appreciate them is to visit them personally! We look forward to seeing you!|

The Maddie Fund  USA Last Fall, UCLA students had a unique opportunity to get college credit for studying feral cats, thanks to a new class offered through the school’s Biology Department. Students who enrolled got to hear veterinarians talk about early age spay/neuter and the management/treatment of illness and injury in feral cat colonies. The effects of public policies and legislation on feral cats were debated as were solutions for humanely controlling feral cat populations, including the Maddie’s Fund Feral Cat Altering Program . Students even learned how to trap feral cats and afterwards, took them to participating veterinarians for spay/neuter surgery. The class was taught by Dr. Taimie Bryant. Although Bryant is a professor of law, she’s been an active feral cat advocate and on-campus trapper for years. Says Bryant, “The class was a huge success.

IDA Resources   is an excellent resource for animal rights materials and information. We've compiled materials that will help you to understand the issues affecting animals worldwide, and will help you to take action to combat animal abuse. Whether you want to start your own animal rights group, document animal abuse at laboratories, distribute informational brochures to the public, or embark on a cruelty-free lifestyle, we hope you will find what you need to get started here. You may even be inspired to start your own animal sanctuary, like IDA's Project Hope. It is the policy of In Defense of Animals to no longer use language that accepts the current concept of animals as property, commodities and/or things. Rather than refer to ourselves or others as "owners" of animals we share our lives with, we now refer to ourselves and others as "guardians" of our animal friends and to animals as "he" or "she" rather than "it." Guardians do not buy or sell animals; instead they rescue and adopt. We urge you to do the same.|
